This is a perennial question for me.
When I read Darren Hardy's blog post I thought well my visitors need to know about this. So below is the link I really to strongly suggest you read it.

Now I am only to painfully aware that this blog has not been active, well that is about to change. On that you have my commitment.

"A traveller through our country would stop at a village, and he didn't have to ask for food or for water. Once he stops, the people give him food, entertain him. That is one aspect of Ubuntu but Ubuntu has various aspects. Ubuntu does not mean that people should not enrich themselves. The question therefore is: Are you going to do so in order to enable the community around you to improve?" Nelson Mandela

Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It also means I am what I am because of who we all are. It is the essence of being human. Ubuntu emphasises that human beings cannot exist in isolation. We are interconnected. We are not just individuals, separate from one another, we are connected and what we do affects the whole world. Ubuntu is achieved when the good that we do spreads out and the whole of humanity is enriched. A quality of Ubuntu is generosity.

This truly is collective power in action. A worldwide community of highly skilled experts that build, share and improve the very latest software and then make it available to everyone at absolutely no cost. It's an almost unbelievable concept, but it's for real, and so powerful. So powerful that threats to the security structure are of the lowest in the industry. The power of the global community is too daunting to be threatened by virus authors.

Ubuntu software has and will always be free, this is an undertaking from Canonical. This give people freedom to use it as they want and share it with whomever they choose. The benefits of this liberation are enormous. This Ubuntu community is able to grow and share its collective experience and expertise. This results in continual improvement and it ensures access to essential software for those who couldn't otherwise afford it. What a fantastic advantage to individuals and organisations world-wide.

Ubuntu believes that every computer user should have:

The freedom to run the program, for any purpose.
The freedom to study how the program works and adapt it to your needs.
The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others.
The freedom to download, run, copy, distribute, study, share, change and improve their software for any purpose, without paying licensing fees.
The ability to use their software in the language of their choice.
The ability to use all software regardless of disability.

Install Ubuntu and you can rest assured that all the software meets these ideals. Plus, Ubuntu engineers are continually working to ensure that every piece of software you could possibly need is available under a licence that gives you those freedoms.

Community, unselfishly sharing knowledge and resources, being unselfishly helpful, and fostering care, trust and respect are the core values of Ubuntu.

This African tradition of Ubuntu is a way of life and a universal truth. This wise ancient concept truly underpins the concept of an open forward thinking society.

We at TSD International, with our African roots, will help anyone we can to experience this Ubuntu community. Visit our Current offers page to see more detail.

Anyone who knows me or even knows anything about me, probably knows that they broke the mould when they made me. Yes, I am a little anti-establishment! I am especially passionate (not in a good way) about big software corporate feeling that it is the duty and obligation of the little guys to line the bottomless pits of their pockets with our hard earned money. And that for some really frustratingly inadequate systems. Okay, you probably have some idea of my sense of passionate loathing.

Around 2004, I decided that enough was enough, there had to be an alternative, and it was time for me to take action and regain my control. I plunged head first in the world of Open Source Software. That's right – I implemented it not just at home but in my business too. Risky you might think! We all feel that way about the unknown. But as it is said....... “a man with a dream shall not be denied,” and frankly, I'd had enough of the nightmare.

Since my first experimentation with Linux, I have to say that the products have matured immensely. I have reached the point of such confidence in the product that I feel it is finally time to break the silence. The more people I speak to, the more I realise what a well guarded secret it has been, and sadly for many that are aware that free software exists, fear has held many back.

When a very good friend and business associate, Mark was complaining to me one day about having to find money to pay his Big Corporate Software Annual Licence Renewal Fees, for his cleaning company – I just knew something had to give! I told him that I had not paid anything in licence fees or upgrades in the last six years – In fact, I have been using the same lap-top for the past six years. He seriously thought I was having him on, and even thought I might be using pirated stuff. Needless to say, I sat him down, helped him change his entire companies computers over, and my main man Mark has never been happier. I saved him a fortune that day, and he's singing all the way to the bank.

For me it's simple:
  • I've saved thousands over the years
  • My personal and company computers are no longer Liabilities but Assets
  • Regaining my computer as a tool with the simplicity of a wheel spanner has allowed me to focus on my business and on providing value to my clients
  • I enjoy having control of my desktop in my own hands
  • My hardware does not become outdated as I remove it from the box
  • I am no longer hampered by inferior quality software products slowing things down
Another aspect I have really come to appreciate is the community support over traditional corporate paid support. There may be a lot of negative hype surrounding this community supported system, but I believe that it is primarily driven by self serving corporate's protecting their profits.

So, Power to the People I say. If you are still shackled and enslaved to the big guns, you owe it to yourself to investigate the alternatives.

If FEAR is the thing that is holding you back, then you want to get in contact with me. I will take your hand and walk you through step by step to the freedom you deserve.

You must be the change you want to see in the world – Mahatma Gandhi
